    a. Purpose and concept of the Digital Flight Data Management Unit (DFDMU).
    b. Brief history of the development and requirements for Flight Data Recording.
    c. Development of the FAA, ED-55 and UK CAA Spec. 18 requirements.
    d. Development of the FAA '91 rule requirement.
    e. Functions which the DFDMU performs including a general overview of the mandatory and AIDS functions.

    2. DFDMU Overview of Operation
    a. Brief description of the integral components that comprise a DFDMU system.
    b. Devices that directly interface with the DFDMU system.
    c. Description of the various parameters which the DFDMU may acquire, including parameter source, processing
by the DFDMU, and final disposition.
    d. Description of the flight modes in which the DFDMU operates, including how each mode affects the functions of
the DFDMU system's data acquisition, DFDR recording QAR operation, and report generation.

    3. DFDMU Mandatory Functions
    a. Purpose of the DFDMU mandatory section.
    b. The circuit cards comprising the mandatory portion of the
DFDMU including the purpose of each.
    c. Operational Theroy, concerning data acquisition and recording
       format for the DFDR.

    4. DFDMU Aircraft Integrated Data Systems (AIDS) Functions
    a. Purpose of the DFDMU AIDS section.
    b. The circuit cards that comprise the AIDS portion of the DFDMU including the purpose of each.
    c. Functions the AIDS portion performs including specific customer applications.
    d. Report generation and distribution within the DEFDARS system and systems interfacing.

    5. Operator Interface with the DFDMU
    a. Cockpit controllers, devices that interface with the DFDMU system.
    b. Initialization, check out procedures to be performed before flight.
    c. Functions which may be performed by the cockpit crew during a flight.
    d. Demonstration of DFDMU operation on a test station, showing flight mode logic, data acquisition,
recording report generation, and all other operations pertinent to the flight crew in a simulated environment.

    6. Optical Disk for DFDMU
    a. Using the optical disk drive DFDMU. Recording to the optical disk, preparing the optical disk, programming and uploading DMP.
    b. Optical system description. The Controller Card, Optical Disk Drive,Temperature Sensor, and Optical Doghouse.

    7. DFDMU Flight Line Test Procedures
    a. Documentation helpful for use in troubleshooting an DFDMU discrepancy on the Aircraft.
    b. Familiarization with the "Fail Annunciator Lamps" on the DFDMU and possible scenarios on how they might be set.
    c. Familiarization with the DFDMU status readout and the conditions they represent.
    d. Cockpit indications that would benefit in fault detection and isolation.
    e. Use of a flight-line tester for troubleshooting an aircraft discrepancy to the suspect LRU.
