Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

1. How do I program my telephone number into my handset?
From the main menu:
Press "9" (setup)
Press "+" (more)
Enter passcode, then "+" (ok)
Press "4" (phone#)
Press "2" (Aircalls)
Press "1" to enter a station number (station numbers are unique to each handset), press "2" to enter an aircraft number (an aircraft number will be entered automatically in all handsets when entered in any one handset).
Press "+" to enter the number manually and then enter the phone number. Press "+" again and enter the PIN # associated with that phone number.
Press "+" to save the number. Press "End Call" to return to the main menu.

2. I am having problem receiving calls from a ground party?
Make sure that you your phone number is programmed into your system. From the main menu: Press "8" (Aircalls), Press "+" (more).
Check to see if Direct call pick-up is enabled. From the main menu: Press "9" (set up), Press “3” (info), Press "+" four times.
Ensure that sonalerts (external ringing devices) are programmed properly.

3. When I look at my handset a message appears "Temporary Service Disruption", what does that mean?
Temporary Service Disruption is a handset message which will occur when there is a wiring problem such as a short. Check LAN line and handset cabling for shorts, pinched wires and frayed/kinked cords.

4. All my handsets are blank and ARTU has a continuous red fault light, what do I do?
Power down the ARTU by pulling the circuit breaker and disconnecting the large canon plug from the front of the unit labeled Data. Power the unit back up and wait 10 minutes. If the light stays on replace the ARTU. If the light goes out check the LAN cabling for possible wiring problems.

6. Who do I contact if I need help with my MagnaStar®?

7. My system is requiring me to swipe a credit card, but I know that my system is programmed for direct billing.
Call Airfone® at 630-575-1304 to see if your unit is activated.

8. I'm trying to program the telephone numbers and it requires a pin?
Call Airfone® at 630-575-1304 to get your pin numbers. Each phone number has its own individual pin number.

9. The cord reel on my handset is damaged and I need to replace it. It looks easy enough to replace. Why I can’t replace it myself?
If the handset is worked on by a non-authorized MagnaStar® station it will void the Teledyne Controls warranty and also the 8130 form.

10. I can’t get my fax machine to work?
Check the MagnaStar® compatibility list to see if it compatible with MagnaStar®. Adjust speaker gain and microphone TX gain (in maintenance session). Try enabling/disabling error correction mode (ECM) on the fax machine.

11. What is the current baud rate?
The current baud rate for data is 4800bps or 9600bps if you have software version 4.0A or later. The baud rate is 2400bps for earlier software. The fax baud rate is 2400bps for all software versions. To check software version, from the main menu: Press "9"(setup), Press "3"(info), and Press "+"(more) until you get to software version.

12. Where can I look to find out how my system is configured?
From the main menu: Press "9" (set up), Press "3" (info). To scroll down the configuration screens, Press "+" (more).

13. I don't remember what phone number belongs to what handset is there a way to check it?
From the main menu: Press "8" (Aircalls), Press "+" (more).

14. Where can I get coverage for the MagnaStar®?
The MagnaStar® has continuous coverage throughout North America, southern section of Canada and most of Mexico.

15. I my fax machine is not on the list, what do I do?
If your fax machine is not on the list, you can send it to Teledyne Controls for testing. Please call Starline at (888) 246-STAR (7827).
