NIKI Selects Teledyne Controls' End-to-End Solution to Support Flight Data Monitoring on their Embraer ERJ 190 Fleet

El Segundo, CA - May 19, 2009 - Teledyne Controls, a business unit of Teledyne Technologies Incorporated (NYSE: TDY), announced today that Austria-based carrier NIKI ordered Teledyne's integrated Data Management Unit (iDMU) and Wireless GroundLink® Quick Access Recorder (WQAR) for installation on their Embraer ERJ 190 fleet of five aircraft, plus five on option. NIKI also selected the AirFASE® (Aircraft Flight Analysis Safety Explorer) software for their flight data analysis program. Together these systems are designed to provide NIKI with a reliable and seamless FOQA (Flight Operations Quality Assurance) solution for Aircraft Condition Monitoring (ACM), data recording, wireless data transfer and flight data replay and analysis. System deployment is expected in mid 2009 through mid 2012.

Teledyne's fully automated end-to-end solution offers NIKI enhanced capabilities for acquiring and processing data with the iDMU, which also generates a set of customizable ACMS reports. Then the WQAR wirelessly and automatically transmits the ACMS reports after landing from any worldwide destination to NIKI's ground station. There, the data and reports are automatically processed and analyzed by AirFASE. To reinforce their FOQA program even further, NIKI selected an expanded data map, which will assist with troubleshooting, Auxiliary Power Unit (APU)/engine trending and aircraft condition monitoring.

"After successfully installing the WQAR and the Flight Data Integrated Management Units (FDIMU) on our Airbus A320 fleet last year, we decided to outfit our Embraer fleet with similar solutions and deploy wireless data transfer capabilities across our entire fleet," said NIKI's Technical Director, Erich Ceru. "By integrating the iDMU, WQAR and AirFASE, we can increase the frequency of data retrieval and the accessibility to our aircraft data and ACMS engine reports for a highly efficient operation."

"We are pleased that NIKI expanded our end-to-end solution to their Embraer fleet to enhance their flight and maintenance operations," said Hans-Juergen Neufert, Teledyne Controls' Senior Manager of Sales and Service for the European region. "This full connectivity with wireless cellular data transmission will significantly streamline their flight data monitoring by minimalizing the effort, time and costs traditionally required to manually recover and process aircraft data."

Teledyne's latest generation integrated Data Management Unit (iDMU) delivers increased performance, while significantly reducing the circuit card count, resulting in higher reliability, reduced weight and lower maintenance costs. The iDMU accepts data from a variety of data acquisition systems and its enhanced ACMS (Aircraft Condition Monitoring System) function facilitates aircraft/engine performance monitoring in addition to daily flight operations monitoring. The iDMU also integrates PC Card recording, offering the additional benefits of a multi-function system in a single unit.

The Wireless Groundlink® QAR is designed to provide operators with a reliable and cost-effective solution for transmitting data from the aircraft to the airline's back office. The WQAR offers unprecedented end-to-end system reliability with observed data recovery rates close to 100 percent of all sectors flown. Raw data recorded during flight is compressed, encrypted and then transmitted wirelessly via cellular and the internet to the airline's or Teledyne's ground-based data center for processing and analysis. With the WQAR, airlines can significantly reduce data delivery delays since data is typically available 10-15 minutes after landing, versus several days or weeks with manual retrieval. Additional benefits are realized since human resources, equipment costs and data-loss associated with manual retrieval are virtually eliminated.

AirFASE® enables operators to evaluate flight operations trends, identify risk precursors, and take early preventive and corrective actions. The system performs all the major functions of the FDM process and contains a sophisticated Flight Analysis Program (FAP), unique to each aircraft type that reconstructs the flight, compares actual data with recommended operational limits and highlights abnormal events and trends. Visualization tools, including 3D animation, allow for easy review of flight profiles, while a powerful and configurable report editor delivers comprehensive and customizable reports. AirFASE is compatible with all major types of commercial transport aircraft. Jointly developed by Teledyne Controls and Airbus, AirFASE was launched in 2004 and is now utilized by over 100 operators worldwide

Used together, these solutions provide the total solution airlines need for a successful flight safety program.
